I can’t believe it’s already September 1st! Here comes Fall! This week we continue our flashback to the 80’s – when everyone was getting their colors done. Last December, I featured the method of determining which colors work for you in an article, “The 1980?s Called and Asked: What Season Are You?“ All fun aside, Jackson’s style advice is a blessing for anyone out there who is color-challenged. You can wear the most expensive make up, the hottest clothing, and the best jewelry – but if you are wearing the wrong colors you will still look horrible (and sometimes, even ill). For more information straight from the source, you should visit her website at carolejackson.com – she provides samples of color swatches that you can refer to once you identify which season suits you.
I think it’s safe to say that Lieutenant Commander Data (far right) is not a Fall. Those colors completely wash him out and make him look quite pasty.
Hold a piece of white paper up to your face and look for a yellow or blue reflection on to the paper. If you cast a yellow tone, you have a warm skin tone. This means you are either a Spring or a Fall. Autumns usually have brown hair and brown eyes, but there are exceptions. If you look good in brown, you are probably a Fall.
Mork is a Fall.
What a perfect time to clean those non-flattering colors out of your closet! Falls are the easiest people to pick colors for, and this is the perfect time of year. If you’re a fall, look around you: the colors of the falling leaves, the deep greens of wet moss, and the deep orange of a pumpkin all look great on you.
Another strategy: go into your kitchen and take a look at those exotic spices on your shelf – those colors look great on you, too!
Just a few days to July 4th and time to look through your closet for all things red, white, and blue!
Did you click on the video? The perfect soundtrack for this section. What would be more romantic than presenting your soul mate with some diamonds during the fireworks? Make sure you are cuddled up on a deck or in a hotel room with a view of the display in the night sky. Guaranteed that you will create some of your own indoor fireworks.
Diamond earrings are always a good choice – they make a great commitment-free gift for a girlfriend and they are also are a special treat for your wife. Remember, jewelry shouldn’t always commemorate a special milestone or occasion – the best gifts come as a complete surprise. You can buy a very nice set of diamond earrings for less than $80 or you can go get some real celebrity-style icing and get earrings for several thousand dollars.
Gina Lollobrigida was born on July 4, 1927. She is actually Italian but was engaged to New York real estate heir George Kaufman for a brief period in 1969 and also was a Hollywood actress, starring in movies with Humphrey Bogart, Burt Lancaster, and Rock Hudson. At one point she was known as ‘the world’s most beautiful woman.’
She is wearing the perfect outfit for a July 4th picnic.
Check out this cute dress is from Tokyo Pink.
Accessorize with a vespa coin purse from etsy.com if you don’t drive the real thing. Also note, if you think a red, white, and blue color theme is too much you can try a light blue, pink, and white coordination like this one for your July 4th style instead.
And don’t forget the most important July 4th accessory of all, a picnic blanket!
Do you see fireworks when you kiss your American sweetheart? Propose on Independence Day and you will! Here is the perfect engagement ring for the day you give up your independence and start living the American dream – a house, a dog, some kids… okay, let’s just start with the ring, shall we?
The heart-shaped diamond and vintage-looking scroll pattern evoke old-fashioned romance. The cathedral style setting makes the most of the diamond and shows you are serious.
This week we continue our flashback to the 80’s – when everyone was getting their colors done. Last December I featured the method of determining which colors work for you in an article, “The 1980′s Called and Asked: What Season Are You?“ This concept originates from a book called “Color Me Beautiful” by Carole Jackson - which spent 4 years on the NY Times bestseller list. All fun aside, Jackson’s style advice is a blessing for anyone out there who is color-challenged. You can wear the most expensive make up, the hottest clothing, and the best jewelry – but if you are wearing the wrong colors you will still look horrible (and sometimes, even ill). In the last article featuring this topic, we explained that “Spring” people look better in warm tones like peach and coral, and yellow gold jewelry flatters their complexion. It makes sense that Summers also look great in warm colors – it is the warmest season after all. However, Summers actually fall into the “cool” category. Examples of cool colors are: green, blue, and violet. Imagine pinks and greens with a blue undertone, and you are on the right track.
Summers are the least common color – it seems like all Summers have naturally blond hair color, which is also rare. To be even more specific, we’re talking cool blonds, not yellow blonds… If you’re a summer your face will reflect a blue tone rather than a yellow tone onto a white piece of paper.
You will look best in subtle color combinations and should avoid contrasts. Summers can still be bold, but it is best to stick to one bright color – like the red Christina is wearing below (note that this red has a blue undertone, making it work for a Summer).
White gold and diamonds are perfect for the girls (and boys) of Summer.
The simple elegant design of this white gold solitaire engagement ring would be perfect.
This highly polished sterling silver collar necklace is also a great way to frame that beautiful summer complexion and blond hair!
Of course, all of the 1200 torchbearers are celebrities for at least a few minutes, while they participate in the relay. Many of them are already famous in Canada as well, if not the whole world. Everyone knows Wayne Gretzky, but not everyone will be familiar with Sam Sullivan – Vancouver’s former mayor.
Vancouver, British Columbia, is often referred to as ‘Hollywood North’ so it sort of makes sense that they’ve invited 15 international celebrities to carry the Olympic torch during the relay. These celebrities include everyone from the Hollywood governator Arnold Schwarzenegger to Bollywood superstar Akshay Tumar.
In what could have been a serious international incident, a man dressed up as an organic carrot swooped in and stole the torch away from Schwarzenegger during the relay.
What you didn’t see that on the news? Just kidding, it’s just a funny spoof. He did get mobbed by fans however and it raised some concerns about security…
Canadian singer Shania Twain ran through her home town of Timmins, Ontario with the torch. Here’s Shania singing cover songs by the fire during her visit back home to Canada.
Make your own fashion statement inspired by the torchbearers and put on a white leisure suit, a knitted cap (‘toque’ in Canadian), and red mittens. This must have been super fun for the participants who ran their part of the relay during the summer!
Or, just buy some red mittens – (hurry, they are going fast) – $10 at Hudson Bay Company, Zellers, and Home Outfitters, but they don’t seem to be selling the mittens online. They are the most popular clothing item from the games by far, and the money goes straight to Canadian athletes. If you’re not in Vancouver, people are selling them at Amazon.com for $50. I’ve also found a website called buyredmittenscanada.ca that sells to US and International shoppers – and it looks like you can bid on the them. Note: These sellers are not affiliated with the Olympics and Celebrity Icing is not in any way endorsing or guaranteeing their legitimacy – please check them out for yourself!
You can choose from a wide variety of souvenirs online at hbc.com (Hudson Bay Company), like this cute charm bracelet ($185).
Or, you can let the style inspire you and buy yourself a similar sterling silver bracelet for half the price ($90).
One of my all time favorite actors Audrey Hepburn, is probably more famous for her style than her actual acting talent (although she had both).
This is probably one of the most famous looks for Hepburn, from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. While main character Holly Golightly would tell you that today smoking is “tres boring”, the rest of the look stands up very well to time. Calvin Klein makes a similar dress, which is available at Macy’s.
A vintage, or retro-inspired, beaded necklace like the one below from foxfirevintagejewelry.com would make your Hepburn look.
Some fancy looking earrings that are actually cubic zirconia (because when you are Holly Golightly, you cash in the expensive gifts for rent and then wear something that just looks good).
And here is a tutorial on how to get your hair to do an updo like Audrey.
Here is Hepburn in one of my favorites, the movie Charade (she starred with Cary Grant). This is the classic movie character disguise used, not something that would work in real life, so only wear this if you want to get noticed, not if you want to hide out.
Vonzipper glasses to hide behind, from streetfusion.co.uk.
A plain white scarf is tres boring, so how about this Longchamp scarf instead? A New York themed scarf as a nod to Breakfast at Tiffany’s or a Paris-themed scarf in honor of the setting of the movie Charade.
I believe this is a candid shot of Audrey Hepburn on the studio lot (see how her bicycle has her name on it?). Hepburn on a casual day.
Ignore the horrible heels, here are some white cigarette pants (I couldn’t find any blue checkered ones) from bluefly.com.
Pair the shoes with the pants and add any simple short sleeved shirt and a cool bicycle and you’ve got a fresh look for Spring (dog not included).
Another favorite photo. Look closely – she’s basically wearing a yoga sweatshirt, but she makes it look so classy. Almost makes you want to NOT like her, but it’s impossible because she’s so cute.
It’s October and all the leaves may be brown and the sky may be gray, but that doesn’t mean you want to wear some of your own icing, right? Add some Autumn awesomeness to your style by wearing some leaf-inspired jewelry!

If you’re city folk like me, you spend a lot of time surrounded by the manmade, manufactured, mass produced environment of offices, grocery stores, traffic, and shopping malls. And, even though I work from home, I spend too much time in front of my computer with a few houseplants scattered here and there – and not enough time in my backyard or the nearby parks…
I think that’s why wearing jewelry that evokes nature feels so good. Flower hair clips, a lady bug brooch, a leaf designed scarf (okay I wouldn’t suggest you wear these all at the same time!) – elements from the natural, organic world comforts us as we live our city lives… they keep us grounded.
This week we are going to focus on some Autumn inspired art as we feature the leaf in jewelry.

A more ornate version of the leaf necklace, from Studio Rona(Etsy).
I love the asymmetric look – this necklace would be fantastic with a scoop neck sweater when the weather cools down, or dressed up with a black velvet strapless gown.

Rocker Travis Barker (Blink 182) has his 3 children – Alabama, Landon and Atiana tattooed on his lower back.

Here is a vintage locket and charm combination created to safeguard photos of those precious little ones – and for an extra $2.00 she will gift wrap it for you and enclose your personalized note on a card.
Try to keep jewelry kid proof so she can enjoy it – curious fingers or rough housing rug rats can pull big earrings right out of mom’s ear. These butterfly gold earrings are pretty safe (and pretty!) – they also symbolize the transformation of your friend (or wife, daughter, or sister) into a mother.
It’s raining here today and many people
are already grumbling
about Summer being at an end
but there’s a whole lot of August left – so…
Here’s a shot of Lindsay Lohan in Malibu. She doesn’t let her lack of pants keep her from loading on the jewelry, and somehow it all works – she looks like she’s out for a casual, relaxed day.

Here’s sun-kissed Jessica Alba looking positively golden – with gold accessories to match. She’s wearing 5 bracelets and at least two necklaces and six rings; not to mention a lovely chain belt.

Gold on Gold
Toned down, this look could work for anyone – two necklaces and several rings are perfect if you stick to the same metal (and color) or select sleek designs.

Jim Carrey seems to think his classic suit is enough, but I would recommend something sparkley to really pull his look together.

May I suggest this Silver and Grey Pearl Drop Necklace?
And some classy studs will really make this stud’s day at the beach shine. Studs are always a better option just in case you get pulled into a game of beach volleyball or have to dive in to the ocean and rescue a swimmer in distress – large or dangly earrings might get caught and tear your ear; or even worse, you might lose them!

Give Your Accessories Some Star PowerIf your birthday falls between July 23 and August 22 you are a LEO just like some of Celebrity Icing’s favorite stars: Amelia Earhart, Zelda Fitzgerald, Mick Jagger, Dustin Hoffman, and my friend Darcy! (Happy Birthday Darcy!)
This week we will look at some classic Leos from the black and white era of film…
According to astrology-online.com, Leos are “the most dominant, spontaneously creative and extrovert[ed] of all the zodiacal characters” (astrology-online.com).
The characters played by silent film star Clara Bow fit this description perfectly: a real ‘go-getter’ who would always get her man. According to a fansite, she “was the first actress who visibly flaunted her sex appeal” and has become “an icon of sexual freedom for women everywhere” (clarabow.net).

Note that Ms. Bow didn’t feel the need to wear showy jewelry to get attention – her natural charisma and confident poise would have been enough. Instead she wears a simple gold watch and a yellow gold link bracelet.

Another favorite of mine, Myrna Loy is best known for her role as Nora Charles in the Thin Man movies.
Here’s a glimpse of her wilder side. The picture is from an early role in the movie “Across the Pacific”. Note this famous Leo’s wild mane – perfect for a lioness. Hair like this is the only accessory you need (and I should know, trust me!) Perhaps a flower tucked behind your ear is a nice touch; otherwise, simple gold earrings would be enough.

Her most famous roles cast her as a perfect wife – her response to this was “Some perfect wife I am,” she said, referring to her typecasting. “I’ve been married four times, divorced four times, have no children, and can’t boil an egg.” (wikepedia.org)

One characteristic of a cancerian is their loony sense of humor. They also find themselves saying, “well, it seemed like a good idea at the time…”. A lot. Drew Barrymore has experienced some ups and downs in the relationship department but she does shine with good taste in the jewelry department. Her engagement ring to Tom Green was from Tiffany’s and her most recent ex, Justin Long, was seen shopping for engagement rings for her at Cartiers (she reportedly dumped him recently).

Here’s the perfect wedding ring for a cancer: it’s fun, yet it is inspired by a classic Tiffany’s design (Cancers also love tradition and dependability). Cancerian Drew Barrymore seems to favor the simpler, less showy designs – so this would fit right in.

Two other famous Cancers and an undisputed part of rock n roll history, Cobain gave Love a 5 karat diamond and ruby engagement ring (tragically for Love, it was then stolen on Valentine’s Day one year after his death). I couldn’t find any pictures of the original ring, but here is a 2 karat diamond and ruby ring that I would personally love!
