Just a few days to July 4th and time to look through your closet for all things red, white, and blue!
Did you click on the video? The perfect soundtrack for this section. What would be more romantic than presenting your soul mate with some diamonds during the fireworks? Make sure you are cuddled up on a deck or in a hotel room with a view of the display in the night sky. Guaranteed that you will create some of your own indoor fireworks.
Diamond earrings are always a good choice – they make a great commitment-free gift for a girlfriend and they are also are a special treat for your wife. Remember, jewelry shouldn’t always commemorate a special milestone or occasion – the best gifts come as a complete surprise. You can buy a very nice set of diamond earrings for less than $80 or you can go get some real celebrity-style icing and get earrings for several thousand dollars.
Gina Lollobrigida was born on July 4, 1927. She is actually Italian but was engaged to New York real estate heir George Kaufman for a brief period in 1969 and also was a Hollywood actress, starring in movies with Humphrey Bogart, Burt Lancaster, and Rock Hudson. At one point she was known as ‘the world’s most beautiful woman.’
She is wearing the perfect outfit for a July 4th picnic.
Check out this cute dress is from Tokyo Pink.
Accessorize with a vespa coin purse from etsy.com if you don’t drive the real thing. Also note, if you think a red, white, and blue color theme is too much you can try a light blue, pink, and white coordination like this one for your July 4th style instead.
And don’t forget the most important July 4th accessory of all, a picnic blanket!
Do you see fireworks when you kiss your American sweetheart? Propose on Independence Day and you will! Here is the perfect engagement ring for the day you give up your independence and start living the American dream – a house, a dog, some kids… okay, let’s just start with the ring, shall we?
The heart-shaped diamond and vintage-looking scroll pattern evoke old-fashioned romance. The cathedral style setting makes the most of the diamond and shows you are serious.
We recently featured Audrey Hepburn here at celebrityicing.com, so this month when I was looking for a new celebrity to feature, I naturally thought of the other famous Hepburn…
Born on May 12 1907, Katherine Hepburn was a Taurus. Although I’m sure she would have thought the very idea was ‘poppycock.’ Yet Taurians (is that what you call them?) are known for their steadiness of character, calmness in the face of obstacles, and steadfast nature. Characteristics that even Kate probably wouldn’t snort at.
Katherine Hepburn appeared in many, many movies over a long lasting career. She won 4 Oscars and is deeply respected today for her talent and her strong personality, particularly considering the era in which she started her career.
Katherine Hepburn was able to portray very strong women who were also uniquely vulnerable – this made her roles very interesting (and timeless).
She also had a talent for comedy and an ability to be beautiful and funny at the same time.
My favorite Hepburn movies has to be Philadelphia Story – I think I’ve seen it more than any other, and I still enjoy it every time. There is a another version of the same story starring Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby, and it is also good – but not AS good as the Hepburn version.
This diamond bracelet would be perfect for her character in the Philadelphia Story.
Here’s an opportunity to support the theatre, celebrate your own individuality, and pay respect to Katharine Hepburn’s hometown at the same time. You can ‘buy’ a seat at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, Connecticut: “preserve her legacy – her fame – her personality – and her snappy style – by sponsoring a chair with your name or a name of someone you would like to honor on a chair plaque.”
Katharine Hepburn had an understated style that was very elegant, like these two-tone earrings and this gold diamond engagement ring. Yellow gold is the perfect type of gold for the Taurus, as well as anyone who enjoys classic movies, and vintage style.
This week we continue our flashback to the 80’s – when everyone was getting their colors done. Last December I featured the method of determining which colors work for you in an article, “The 1980′s Called and Asked: What Season Are You?“ This concept originates from a book called “Color Me Beautiful” by Carole Jackson - which spent 4 years on the NY Times bestseller list. All fun aside, Jackson’s style advice is a blessing for anyone out there who is color-challenged. You can wear the most expensive make up, the hottest clothing, and the best jewelry – but if you are wearing the wrong colors you will still look horrible (and sometimes, even ill). For more information straight from the source, you should visit her website at carolejackson.com – she provides samples of color swatches that you can refer to once you identify which season suits you.

In the last article featuring this topic, we explained that “Spring” people look better in warm tones like peach and coral, and yellow gold jewelry flatters their complexion. It makes sense that Summers also look great in warm colors – it is the warmest season after all. However, Summers actually fall into the “cool” category. Examples of cool colors are: green, blue, and violet. Imagine pinks and greens with a blue undertone, and you are on the right track.
Summers are the least common color – it seems like all Summers have naturally blond hair color, which is also rare. To be even more specific, we’re talking cool blonds, not yellow blonds… If you’re a summer your face will reflect a blue tone rather than a yellow tone onto a white piece of paper.
You will look best in subtle color combinations and should avoid contrasts. Summers can still be bold, but it is best to stick to one bright color – like the red Christina is wearing below (note that this red has a blue undertone, making it work for a Summer).
White gold and diamonds are perfect for the girls (and boys) of Summer.
The simple elegant design of this white gold solitaire engagement ring would be perfect.
This highly polished sterling silver collar necklace is also a great way to frame that beautiful summer complexion and blond hair!
The weather is getting warmer, the sun is out, and that means it’s time to get outside. No more excuses about the weather to stop you from getting out there! I love to run, and nicer weather is always that extra inspiration.
Here are some celebrity runners to inspire you to hit the streets. You don’t have to have a personal trainer or the most expensive gear to run, just a good pair of shoes and the will power.
Black capri-length bottoms are the perfect fit for running, whether you are a famous movie star or not. Show off your rock hard calves and draw attention away from anything you are trying to run back into shape. The Running Room version below are called the “Be Fresh” capri because they “silver infusion” makes them “odor free and anti bacterial”.
These panties from Vivvos feel like you are running around without anything on at all. They are made from a material that doesn’t leave lines and are great for wearing under athletic wear, yet pretty enough to wear under formal clothing, too!
If running makes you feel less than glamorous, you can add some icing by accessorizing with your sunglasses – like these cool black shades from Oakley – which match the panties above, by the way! (As an added bonus, part of the proceeds go to the Young Survival Coalition which focuses on young women affected by breast cancer.
Still not ready to strap on your shoes? Celebrity Icing offers you some eye candy to get your motor running… Yummy.
Will Smith on the importance of running and reading, two of my favorite hobbies…
It’s classier (and more convienient) when your jewelry is kept in one of these boxes. I have a few different spots for my jewelry, but it always tends to spread around the house eventually. I’ve found that it’s easy to hang on to my valuables when I have a spot for them in almost every room in my house. I tried just getting into the habit of always putting my jewelry in one spot, but I had to give up. Instead, I now have several places to look when I’m wondering where my wedding ring disappeared to. At least I know it’s in a safe place and not just resting on a kitchen windowsill or the fireplace mantle, where it could easily be dusted away into oblivion.
Jewelry boxes are great for your every day accessories, but I’d continue to keep your special occasion jewelry, heirlooms, and diamonds locked up for safe-keeping (or at least tucked into an old sock at the back of one of your drawers). If you’re lucky enough to only own solid gold and sterling silver jewelry, then you can keep your hair accessories inside instead!
A smaller, silver jewelry box on your nightstand is a great place to keep your earrings safe if you’re in the habit of removing them right before you sleep. If you’re in the habit of sleeping with your cell phone nearby, but don’t want the visual reminder of your work responsibilities, you can also tuck your phone inside as well.
You can glam up your bedroom for less than you think. This silver mirrored jewelry box is only $4.99.
You can transport almost any North American girl back to her bobby socks days, by giving her one of these.
This antique carved wooden jewelry box is the perfect stash for your treasures.

Of course, all of the 1200 torchbearers are celebrities for at least a few minutes, while they participate in the relay. Many of them are already famous in Canada as well, if not the whole world. Everyone knows Wayne Gretzky, but not everyone will be familiar with Sam Sullivan – Vancouver’s former mayor.
Vancouver, British Columbia, is often referred to as ‘Hollywood North’ so it sort of makes sense that they’ve invited 15 international celebrities to carry the Olympic torch during the relay. These celebrities include everyone from the Hollywood governator Arnold Schwarzenegger to Bollywood superstar Akshay Tumar.
In what could have been a serious international incident, a man dressed up as an organic carrot swooped in and stole the torch away from Schwarzenegger during the relay.
What you didn’t see that on the news? Just kidding, it’s just a funny spoof. He did get mobbed by fans however and it raised some concerns about security…
Canadian singer Shania Twain ran through her home town of Timmins, Ontario with the torch. Here’s Shania singing cover songs by the fire during her visit back home to Canada.
Make your own fashion statement inspired by the torchbearers and put on a white leisure suit, a knitted cap (‘toque’ in Canadian), and red mittens. This must have been super fun for the participants who ran their part of the relay during the summer!
Or, just buy some red mittens – (hurry, they are going fast) – $10 at Hudson Bay Company, Zellers, and Home Outfitters, but they don’t seem to be selling the mittens online. They are the most popular clothing item from the games by far, and the money goes straight to Canadian athletes. If you’re not in Vancouver, people are selling them at Amazon.com for $50. I’ve also found a website called buyredmittenscanada.ca that sells to US and International shoppers – and it looks like you can bid on the them. Note: These sellers are not affiliated with the Olympics and Celebrity Icing is not in any way endorsing or guaranteeing their legitimacy – please check them out for yourself!
You can choose from a wide variety of souvenirs online at hbc.com (Hudson Bay Company), like this cute charm bracelet ($185).
Or, you can let the style inspire you and buy yourself a similar sterling silver bracelet for half the price ($90).
According to erosastrology.com: “Aquarians basically possess strong and attractive personalities. They fall into two principle types: one shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the other exuberant, lively and exhibitionist, sometimes hiding the considerable depths of their character under a cloak of frivolity.”

Many signs have specific colors that suit them, but the aquarius looks good in all of the colors of the rainbow. Alice Cooper, while dressing mostly in black, can be described as a “colorful character”.

You can read all about the famous inventor Thomas Edison at thomasedison.com. Here are two of my favorite quotes (more at the site):
Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Ayn Rand studied philosophy and history in university. She moved to the USA from Soviet Russia in 1925. Her books “dramatized her unique philosophy”, most famously in Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. You can read more about her at aynrand.org.
Chris Farley’s unpredictable nature added to his hilarity.

According to showbizspy.com, Lady Gaga defended her friend Adam Lambert against a homophobe recently at a Canadian club. Gaga reportedly said “call me anything you want, but when you start calling my friends names, it’s over — it’s war!” right before she poured a glass of wine over him.
Aquarius is the sign of the water carrier so this is a creative and practical gift from nubiusorganics.com. This is the most beautiful reuseable water bottle I’ve seen so far. For an additional price, you can buy a stone with a motivational message that slips into the cap (apparenlty only you can see it when you are drinking).

Or, here’s a funner angle on the water theme: a bunch of water experiments from the supernerds at thinkgeek.com.

Getting married to an aquarius? A colorful engagement ring, like this white gold ring with lagoon blue sapphires would be perfect.

These rainbow tights from hottopic.com are also a bright idea.

If you were born between December 22 and January 19, you are a Capricorn. The sign of the capricorn is the goat. Often the goat will have a fish tail instead of hind legs.
Sir Anthony Hopkins takes his work seriously, whether he is playing a serial killer (Silence of the Lambs) or C.S. Lewis (Shadowlands). He has been nominated for 4 Oscars (winning once). He goes to great lengths to prepare for his acting roles and has had huge success in both film and theatre productions.

Love him or not, there is no disputing the fact that Tiger Woods is a hard worker. He doesn’t dabble, he goes all out.

And why shouldn’t she be confident? She’s only one of the most successful soap actors ever – appearing on All My Children since 1970. She also has been married since 1969 so longevity is just her style.

Simone de Beauvoir – writer, feminist, and philosopher. In true Capricorn style, her nickname was ‘beaver’ because she was so hard-working.

The garnet is a lucky stone for Capricorns. This garnet ring from exoticindianart.com looks luxurious but is inexpensive.

Capricorns may seem very serious and businesslike on the outside so they have problems getting close to people. Consider buying your Capricorn a stuffie to cuddle with when they feel lonely, like this one from amerikidtoys.com.
The capricorn in your life would also appreciate the classic lines and excellent quality of a simple, timeless gold bracelet.
In the first installment of our nod to the 1980′s and the popularity of ‘getting your colors done’ back then – we look at Winters. For an introduction to this series, please refer back to our last post: ‘The 1980′s Called And Asked: What Season Are You?”
Go get yourself a white piece of paper. Don’t worry, you’re not going to have to write a test – you just need it to determine whether you have a warm or cool complexion! You’ll also need a mirror. Hold the paper up to your face and then look in the mirror. Does your face seem to cast a yellow tone to the paper, or is it more blue?
Examples below: Vinnie is a winter. He looks good in black and navy blue. Winters usually have dark hair and fair or olive skin.

The winter world is high contrast – bright white snow; deep black night.
Cher starred in a string of movies in the 80′s (Silkwood, Mask, Mooonstruck, Mermaids).

Bright, intense, vivid colors also look great on you -but stay away from shades of brown or faded colors – they will make you look faded, too; whereas Winter colors will really make you POP.

When selecting colors to wear – think jewel tones. Vibrant, deep and vivid colors such as emerald, ruby, or sapphire complement a winter’s cool.

If you take a moment to think about what season the person is you can get them a gift that will make them look great! Christmas is the perfect gift-giving season for Winters. They look great in Christmas colors (Red, Green, Royal Blue, Pure White…). Here are some ideas for the Winters on your shopping list:
Note that a winter can also be a platinum blonde not just a brunette.
Not this platinum blonde.
Well, maybe- but actually I meant this platinum blonde!

During the 1980′s women would often get their ‘colors done’ – a trained specialist (like for example, one of your mom’s friends) would evaluate your coloring (hair, complexion, eyes) and then tell you if you were a Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. You would be told what colors you should wear based on this evaluation.
This type of oversimplification and rigid rules of style went out with those scarves you were supposed to be able to wear in 150 different ways (instruction booklet attached).
Yet, there are colors that suit different people – and they can still be a good foundation to build a personal look on.

Women of all Seasons
Join us as we look at the characteristics for each season and the colors that compliment them.
Perhaps you will be surprised by the results. Perhaps we’ll inspire you to try out some new colors. Or, you can use the seasons as a gift guide for the Winter and Spring folks on your Christmas list (that’s probably how far we will get this month). And, of course, in true Celebrity Icing style – we will include some sparkly Stars and some starry sparklers for you to enjoy -with some fun nods back to that colorful decade, the 80′s along the way…
