I can’t believe it’s already September 1st! Here comes Fall! This week we continue our flashback to the 80’s – when everyone was getting their colors done. Last December, I featured the method of determining which colors work for you in an article, “The 1980?s Called and Asked: What Season Are You?“ All fun aside, Jackson’s style advice is a blessing for anyone out there who is color-challenged. You can wear the most expensive make up, the hottest clothing, and the best jewelry – but if you are wearing the wrong colors you will still look horrible (and sometimes, even ill). For more information straight from the source, you should visit her website at carolejackson.com – she provides samples of color swatches that you can refer to once you identify which season suits you.
I think it’s safe to say that Lieutenant Commander Data (far right) is not a Fall. Those colors completely wash him out and make him look quite pasty.
Hold a piece of white paper up to your face and look for a yellow or blue reflection on to the paper. If you cast a yellow tone, you have a warm skin tone. This means you are either a Spring or a Fall. Autumns usually have brown hair and brown eyes, but there are exceptions. If you look good in brown, you are probably a Fall.
Mork is a Fall.
What a perfect time to clean those non-flattering colors out of your closet! Falls are the easiest people to pick colors for, and this is the perfect time of year. If you’re a fall, look around you: the colors of the falling leaves, the deep greens of wet moss, and the deep orange of a pumpkin all look great on you.
Another strategy: go into your kitchen and take a look at those exotic spices on your shelf – those colors look great on you, too!
It’s hot outside, so it’s time to turn up the temperature and get your style sizzling!
Not Serena Williams who looks very cool in this black bikini.
Her bikini says, “It’s all about me” (literally).
If you are going to wear black during the hot days of summer just be aware of the fabric you select. Try natural fabrics like cotton, or my favorite – bamboo. A small percentage of synthetic fibre (rayon, spandex, etc) will help your clothes keep their shape and also prevent them from wrinkling.
When it comes to wearing black in the summer, think ‘less is more’. You don’t want to wear black clothing from head to toe, a black bikini or short summer slip dress will be more comfortable than a long sleeved shift or a full length skirt. Black and white are the ultimate high contrast combination for the intense light of a summer day and work well with most skin tones.
I love black straw sun hats with huge rims (think Audrey Hepburn) but they are not very practical for summer. You are not only wearing a hat to protect your hair and head from the sun, you are wearing it to keep cool and protect yourself from sun stroke as well – therefore black is not the best color choice. Wear a white hat or natural straw color instead.
The LBD works year round -as seen by this pretty example from BCBG.
Accessorize with some black ice, like this diamond ring with black and white diamonds.
Wear this bracelet made out of glass beads at your next summer party – the perfect accessory for a fancy cocktail.
Keep your feet cool this summer with cute black sandals from Nine West.
The weather is getting warmer, the sun is out, and that means it’s time to get outside. No more excuses about the weather to stop you from getting out there! I love to run, and nicer weather is always that extra inspiration.
Here are some celebrity runners to inspire you to hit the streets. You don’t have to have a personal trainer or the most expensive gear to run, just a good pair of shoes and the will power.
Black capri-length bottoms are the perfect fit for running, whether you are a famous movie star or not. Show off your rock hard calves and draw attention away from anything you are trying to run back into shape. The Running Room version below are called the “Be Fresh” capri because they “silver infusion” makes them “odor free and anti bacterial”.
These panties from Vivvos feel like you are running around without anything on at all. They are made from a material that doesn’t leave lines and are great for wearing under athletic wear, yet pretty enough to wear under formal clothing, too!
If running makes you feel less than glamorous, you can add some icing by accessorizing with your sunglasses – like these cool black shades from Oakley – which match the panties above, by the way! (As an added bonus, part of the proceeds go to the Young Survival Coalition which focuses on young women affected by breast cancer.
Still not ready to strap on your shoes? Celebrity Icing offers you some eye candy to get your motor running… Yummy.

It’s classier (and more convienient) when your jewelry is kept in one of these boxes. I have a few different spots for my jewelry, but it always tends to spread around the house eventually. I’ve found that it’s easy to hang on to my valuables when I have a spot for them in almost every room in my house. I tried just getting into the habit of always putting my jewelry in one spot, but I had to give up. Instead, I now have several places to look when I’m wondering where my wedding ring disappeared to. At least I know it’s in a safe place and not just resting on a kitchen windowsill or the fireplace mantle, where it could easily be dusted away into oblivion.
Jewelry boxes are great for your every day accessories, but I’d continue to keep your special occasion jewelry, heirlooms, and diamonds locked up for safe-keeping (or at least tucked into an old sock at the back of one of your drawers). If you’re lucky enough to only own solid gold and sterling silver jewelry, then you can keep your hair accessories inside instead!
A smaller, silver jewelry box on your nightstand is a great place to keep your earrings safe if you’re in the habit of removing them right before you sleep. If you’re in the habit of sleeping with your cell phone nearby, but don’t want the visual reminder of your work responsibilities, you can also tuck your phone inside as well.
You can glam up your bedroom for less than you think. This silver mirrored jewelry box is only $4.99.
You can transport almost any North American girl back to her bobby socks days, by giving her one of these.
This antique carved wooden jewelry box is the perfect stash for your treasures.

One of my all time favorite actors Audrey Hepburn, is probably more famous for her style than her actual acting talent (although she had both).
This is probably one of the most famous looks for Hepburn, from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. While main character Holly Golightly would tell you that today smoking is “tres boring”, the rest of the look stands up very well to time. Calvin Klein makes a similar dress, which is available at Macy’s.
A vintage, or retro-inspired, beaded necklace like the one below from foxfirevintagejewelry.com would make your Hepburn look.
Some fancy looking earrings that are actually cubic zirconia (because when you are Holly Golightly, you cash in the expensive gifts for rent and then wear something that just looks good).
And here is a tutorial on how to get your hair to do an updo like Audrey.
Here is Hepburn in one of my favorites, the movie Charade (she starred with Cary Grant). This is the classic movie character disguise used, not something that would work in real life, so only wear this if you want to get noticed, not if you want to hide out.
Vonzipper glasses to hide behind, from streetfusion.co.uk.
A plain white scarf is tres boring, so how about this Longchamp scarf instead? A New York themed scarf as a nod to Breakfast at Tiffany’s or a Paris-themed scarf in honor of the setting of the movie Charade.
I believe this is a candid shot of Audrey Hepburn on the studio lot (see how her bicycle has her name on it?). Hepburn on a casual day.
Ignore the horrible heels, here are some white cigarette pants (I couldn’t find any blue checkered ones) from bluefly.com.
Pair the shoes with the pants and add any simple short sleeved shirt and a cool bicycle and you’ve got a fresh look for Spring (dog not included).
Another favorite photo. Look closely – she’s basically wearing a yoga sweatshirt, but she makes it look so classy. Almost makes you want to NOT like her, but it’s impossible because she’s so cute.
In the first installment of our nod to the 1980′s and the popularity of ‘getting your colors done’ back then – we look at Winters. For an introduction to this series, please refer back to our last post: ‘The 1980′s Called And Asked: What Season Are You?”
Go get yourself a white piece of paper. Don’t worry, you’re not going to have to write a test – you just need it to determine whether you have a warm or cool complexion! You’ll also need a mirror. Hold the paper up to your face and then look in the mirror. Does your face seem to cast a yellow tone to the paper, or is it more blue?
Examples below: Vinnie is a winter. He looks good in black and navy blue. Winters usually have dark hair and fair or olive skin.

The winter world is high contrast – bright white snow; deep black night.
Cher starred in a string of movies in the 80′s (Silkwood, Mask, Mooonstruck, Mermaids).

Bright, intense, vivid colors also look great on you -but stay away from shades of brown or faded colors – they will make you look faded, too; whereas Winter colors will really make you POP.

When selecting colors to wear – think jewel tones. Vibrant, deep and vivid colors such as emerald, ruby, or sapphire complement a winter’s cool.

If you take a moment to think about what season the person is you can get them a gift that will make them look great! Christmas is the perfect gift-giving season for Winters. They look great in Christmas colors (Red, Green, Royal Blue, Pure White…). Here are some ideas for the Winters on your shopping list:
Note that a winter can also be a platinum blonde not just a brunette.
Not this platinum blonde.
Well, maybe- but actually I meant this platinum blonde!

Born between November 22 and December 21?
If so, then you are in good company!
Words used to describe people born under the sign of Sagittarius… flirty and fun, you like to have a good time. This, combined with your optimism, can get you into a world of trouble but at least you’ll look good on your way!
The ultimate example of lead singer-itis – Jim Morrison of the Doors. He had amazing stage presence but got carried away when he took all of his clothes off on stage (and got arrested for indecency). Get inspired by Jim’s original rock and roll style and get yourself some leather pants (or reasonable facsimile) – nothing says rock n roll more than black leather! (Warning: advice is not for anyone over 40 years old unless you were already a rock star when the Doors were still touring.)

Prove your are legit and get your leather at a shop that caters to bikers rather than a boutique.

Here’s a sagittarius who really nose how to party – Keith Richards actually snorted part of his cremated father according to merryswankster.com. Sagittarians love freedom and they love to have a good time, but they can also have gambling problems when they get out of control…
Check out cool Keith’s belt – it sends the message you can be pretty wasted and still be pretty at the same time! Like Keith Richards, the belt buckle below is a 100% original piece of work. They will also design a custom motif for you so you could even ask them to make you a belt buckle inspired by Keith’s buckle shown above.

If you have big hair, strong pipes, and great legs like Tina Turner, you don’t need flashy jewelry to get anyone’s attention. Note her simple bracelet that sends a message that she isn’t a flash-in-the-pan… she’s solid gold.

Katie Holmes’ name doesn’t pop into my head when I think of the words ‘flirt’ or ‘party girl’. However she must have two key traits of Sagittarius; she must be optimistic and a gambler or she wouldn’t have agreed to marry you-know-who…
Katie’s smart, pulled together style hints that she must know what she is doing (or she has a very good stylist). Check out the elegant dress and earrings below.

What’s your favorite Halloween costume?Last year my husband went as Captain Hooker (pirate from the waist up, miniskirt and fishnets from the waist down) and I went as Stinkerbell (imagine Tinkerbell crossed with the Peanuts’ character Pig Pen). My friends dressed up as Alice in Wonderbread (she wore an Alice costume with those big wonderbread dots all over it) and Phantom of the Grand Ol’ Opry – I’m a sucker for these kinds of ‘play on words’ costumes…
Don’t use Halloween as an excuse to wear your sleaziest clothes – do something interesting! Do we really need to see another naughty nurse, hooker, or French maid? This year we think smart, ironic, witty, or a combination of all three is much sexier (if it involves fishnet stockings or stilettos, that’s fine – but they should be part of the costume!).
Today celebrity icing celebrates some cool and creepy jewelry and stars in honor of the season.

Here is the Lotus Spider Ring offered by Kabiri. I love the heart detail and the bed of diamonds… (and yes, they are real diamonds).
Here are some nice nods to the season if you’re not dressing up. You don’t just have to wear these on Halloween either!

It’s October and all the leaves may be brown and the sky may be gray, but that doesn’t mean you want to wear some of your own icing, right? Add some Autumn awesomeness to your style by wearing some leaf-inspired jewelry!

If you’re city folk like me, you spend a lot of time surrounded by the manmade, manufactured, mass produced environment of offices, grocery stores, traffic, and shopping malls. And, even though I work from home, I spend too much time in front of my computer with a few houseplants scattered here and there – and not enough time in my backyard or the nearby parks…
I think that’s why wearing jewelry that evokes nature feels so good. Flower hair clips, a lady bug brooch, a leaf designed scarf (okay I wouldn’t suggest you wear these all at the same time!) – elements from the natural, organic world comforts us as we live our city lives… they keep us grounded.
This week we are going to focus on some Autumn inspired art as we feature the leaf in jewelry.

This week celebrityicing compares two famous and iconic American boys: John F Kennedy Jr and Nick Simmons. Sadly, JFK Jr’s plane crashed tragically in 1999, so he is no longer with us (although our crushes on him will live forever).
The original Kennedy, Joseph (John F Kennedy’ father), still held the tenacity and ambition of his Irish immigrant family – making his fortune in banking and the film industry. Gene Simmons came to the US with his mom Florence (a holocaust survivor) from Israel and built his fortune in the entertainment industry using raw talent, ingenuity, and excellent business and marketing skills.

Joe Kennedy; Gene Simmons with his Mom
According to time.com, Franklin D Roosevelt called Joe Kennedy (JFK Jr’s grandfather) a ‘crook‘ (although indirectly). According to wikipedia.org, Al Franken (now a US Senator) described Gene Simmons (Nick’s dad) as “the most awful person I’ve ever met” during a 2002 interview.
The Kennedys and the Simmons are the closest thing Americans have to the royal families of European countries. The average person is very familiar with their lives, which are covered in the media in detail. They are affluent, exciting, inspiring, and -most importantly – photogenic.
US President John F. Kennedy, First Lady Jacquie Kennedy, daughter Caroline Kennedy, and son John F. Kennedy Jr make up the most famous first family of the United States of America and belong to one of the most famous, wealthy, and influential US families (“the Kennedys”).
Rock bassist, vocalist, actor and successful businessman Gene Simmons, girlfriend Shannon Tweed, daughter Sophie Tweed, and son Nick Simmons make up one of the most famous rock n roll families (perhaps a close second to the Osbournes?).

American Royalty: Two Families
Despite all of the advantages that good looks, wealth, and popularity bring – both JFK Jr and Nick Simmons seem(ed) to be rather flustered by the attention and even embarrassed by their situation. (JFK Jr grew out of this so perhaps will Nick Simmons.) The tousled hair, eye-rolling, and awkwardly long limbs during the post teen years help purvey this image of course.
John F Kennedy Jr was a talented actor but was discouraged by his family and studied law instead. He also founded the magazine George. Nick Simmons is also an actor (he plays himself on a reality TV show about his family) and creates comic books.
