Just when it seemed like the uber-thin, clean cut Jenny on Gossip Girl would be better off moving to another zip code (um, that would be 90210, duh…), our little Jenny seems to have grown up all of a sudden.
This morning 3 talented musicians will be honored by Billboard at a breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. Also today, the Women In Music issue of Billboard is going to be issued.
Deborah Harry, Ciara and Colbie Caillat are all receiving awards today and so Celebrity Icing is going to spotlight their style as a tribute to them.
I am so happy to see these talented people recognized. Particularly, Deborah Harry who has inspired me personally. Did you know that Deborah Harry was 32 years old when her band, Blondie, had their first commercial hit? (1977 – “In the Flesh”, and that was in Australia). Her first US Hit was “Heart of Glass”, two years later.
I searched for quite some time and it doesn’t seem like Deborah Harry wears jewelry very often. I guess when you’re a force of nature like her you don’t need to adorn yourself with any extra sparkle. She definitely draws attention naturally.

Last year, Reba McEntire received the Woman of the Year Award.
Don’t Be Afraid To Accessorize On Halloween
A princess?

This gift suits his costume to a ‘tee’.
A beautiful engagement ring was the climax of last night’s episode of Fox TV’s new show the Fringe. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this show and I was impressed! It’s kind of like a cross between Numbers and X-Files. Great eccentric ‘Dr. Bishop’ character, likable female lead (Anna Torv as character Olivia Dunham – is it just me or does she remind you of Sam Spade from Without a Trace?), and it doesn’t hurt that good-looking and huggable Joshua Jackson (Pacey from Dawson’s Creek) also has a role!

At the end of last night’s episode (Episode 5, “Power Hungry”) John’s personal effects are turned over to Olivia, including a gorgeous engagement ring. I couldn’t find a photo of the ring anywhere but it looked kind of like this, I think?
PS Want to see the ring for real? You can watch the episode of Fringe on Fox’s website.
Heavy StuffRingless in Seattle’s response to my September 19 post “Is it Wrong to Take off the Ring?” was that a) he doesn’t like wearing jewelry, b) he doesn’t like typing with a ring c) maybe a lighter ring would help.
I mean… how heavy could it be? I would recommend that he gives his ring a chance – wear it for one week and then decide if it’s still too heavy. People all over the world wear rings around the clock so unless you have a medical condition of some sort or just extremely weak fingers – it’s no excuse. Unless your ring looks like this of course!
Last week on October 1st, a big crew of Hip Hop stars auctioned off their jewelry. Buyers had the choice of donating their purchases to the Smithsonian’s hip hop archive; otherwise, proceeds will go to the Russell Simmons’ coalition of nonprofit organizations.
According to the staff at liveauctioneers.com, “This is the first time that hip hop jewelry will be presented within the auction setting, as glittering cultural artifacts woven into hip hop’s colorful legacy.” Pretty cool, hey? Interesting to look at but a bit too big and bold for you? Remember, your jewelry can still tell the world who you are: your beliefs, your interests and your family.
Whether it’s a religious symbol or your birthstone or a charm that shows where you have travelled or what your hobbies are, jewelry is a personal statement.
I have a ‘I love to wrestle’ charm that I bought from a street vendor in Memphis. It always reminds me of the fun road trip that took me from Washington DC down through Memphis and then up to Oklahoma City and along route 66 to California. I thought it was funny at the time (I’d already had a few drinks on Beale Street) and now I wear it when I’m feeling cheeky.
One last note about Ringless in Seattle. It’s obvious what my opinion is about the whole ring thing but I guess what really matters is how his wife feels about it. If she’s okay with her husband going ringless unless its a special occasion then that’s good enough for me.
Maybe Diamonds are EVERYONE’s best friend? According to an article published on Health.InfoNIAC.com today, “The researchers at Northwestern University developed a patch made of nanodiamonds, tiny bits of diamonds consisting of few groups of carbon atoms that will be used to deliver chemotherapy drugs more effectively.” These miniscule diamond pieces help to release the drugs “slowly and evenly”.
Rihanna reportedly loved the gold heart-shaped pendant so much that she had a diamond cross made for Chris in return.
A heart shaped pendant is a sweet sign of affection and a perfect gift from a man on special occasions or, even better, out of the blue as a surprise.
